Curing type 1 diabetes requires re-establishment of the insulin-producing beta cells that the disease has destroyed, e.g. by regenerating the cells, or transplanting cells from an external source. Re-establishment of functional insulin-producing cells requires a solution to avoid the destruction of new cells.

In the meantime, it is important to reduce the burden of living with type 1 diabetes, primarily through improved glycemic control, which can be achieved through the development of new drugs and technology. Likewise, it is essential that new and better ways are developed to prevent, stop, and treat the complications related to type 1 diabetes.

T1com works to promote development and access to better treatments and ultimately a cure for type 1 diabetes. The focus is on JDRF's research areas. which can be broken down into 3 time horizons:

Mid Term
